Malvern Prep picks up big win in Maryland
Malvern Prep’s boys lacrosse team posts a win over Calvert Hall on a trip to Maryland.
Jack Traynor had three goals and three assists to help Malvern Prep to a season-opening 13-7 boys lacrosse victory over Calvert Hall in Maryland on Tuesday.
Scott White added three goals and an assist, Billy Coyle had two goals and two asssists. Michael Fay had a game-high four goals and an assist and Dom Distenfano had a goal.
Andrew Clark made 10 saves and Sean Christman won 11 of 23 faceoffs.
Boys Tennis
WEST CHESTER HENDERSON 7, COATESVILLE 0 >> The Warriors lost more than one game just once to sweep the opening Ches-Mont National contest. Kiran Seoni won a marathon tiebreaker, 9-7, for a straight sets victory at first single. Dan Duchala and Ben McFalls dropped three games in total in winning their singles matches. GREAT VALLEY 7, OXFORD 0 >> The Patriots did not drop a game in five of the seven matches to sweep the ChesMont American opener. Sam Kesti led the way with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at first singles. DOWNINGTOWN EAST 7, KENNETT 0 >> Defending state champion Michael Dickson won his match at first singles, 6-1, 6-1 as the Cougars swept the Ches-Mont season opener Monday.
The Cougars did not drop a set in winning the match.
Jason Listmeier won, 6-1, 6-2 at second singles and Tristan McBride collected a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles. WEST CHESTER RUSTIN 7, OXFORD 0 >> Luke Shevlin won 6-0, 6-0 as the Golden Knights kicked off their season with the Ches-Mont American sweep of the Hornets on Monday.
College Women’s Lacrosse
WEST CHESTER 11, MILLERSVILLE 6 >> Sami Barnett registered a hat trick as sixth-ranked West Chester downed homestanding Millersville, 11-6, in a PSAC women’s lacrosse match. West Chester (4-0, 1-0 PSAC) gave up the first goal of the game to Millersville (4-2, 0-1), but rebounded to score eight of the next nine tallies and take a commanding 8-2 advantage. The Golden Rams’ stifling defense frustrated the Marauders into a pair of scoring droughts that both lasted over 20 minutes while WCU’s offense put the game out of reach.
Baseball
WEST CHESTER 10, PHILADELPHIA UNIVERSITY 6, 10 INNINGS >> Shane Dressler provided an RBI groundrule double to spark a four-run 10th inning to lift West Chester past host Philadelphia University. West Chester (8-3) capitalized with the top of the lineup in the beginning of the 10th inning to capture its second consecutive victory. Shortstop Nick Ward reached on base by way of a fielder’s choice. He later stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error. Dressler knocked him for his second RBI of the day. Robert Knox proceed to extend the lead with a two-run triple to left center and later scored to put the game out of reach.
