Sopko lifts Conestoga in OT

Tommy Sopko scored with a minute left in the first overtime to give Conestoga a 13-12 nonleague boys lacrosse victory over Calvert Hall of Maryland.

Goalie Scott MacMillan had a highlight goal as he scored from the other side of the midway line.

Sopko ended with four goals, while Henry Berg, Hunter Gregory and Tate Kienzle had two goals each.

UNIONVILLE 8, PENNCREST 7

>> Zach Lawrence and Jack Hoopman had three goals each as the Indians registered the season-opening nonleague victory.

Girls Lacrosse

STRATH HAVEN 7, BISHOP SHANAHAN 6 >> Alyssa Manley and Kayla Smith had two goals each as the Eagles fell in their nonleague opener.

CHICHESTER 10 >> Akina Wollie had six goals and Gillian Schlenner added four as the Cougars captured their nonleague season opener.

>> Samantha Bartos scored the lone goal for the Hornets in the nonleague defeat.

KENNETT 6, HAVERFORD HIGH 0 >> Owen Dougherty pitched five innings of onehit ball and the Blue Demons scored five times in the second inning as they opened the season with the nonleague shutout. Dougherty struck out four and walked three. Kevin Wessels had two hits, two RBIs and scored a pair of runs. MALVERN PREP 3, FATHER JUDGE 0 >> Nick Li, Shane Muntz and Matt Daller drove in single runs as the Friars notched the nonleague victory. Jalen Wade allowed four hits and seven strikeouts in five innings.

Softball

BISHOP SHANAHAN 6, SUN VALLEY 0 >> Devin Miller allowed one hit with 14 strikeouts as the Eagles opened the season with the ChesMont victory. Annie Weyand doubled and homered and drove in two runs.

VILLA MARIA 2, AVON GROVE

0>> The Hurricanes scored a pair of runs in the fifth inning to post the nonleague shutout. Alyssa Viscardo allowed two hits with four strikeouts for the shutout. Brianna Wright had two hits and an RBI for Villa and Ana Ciarrochi doubled and scored.

Rachel Butler gave up six hits and struck out seven for the Red Devils.

WEST CHESTER EAST 5, WEST CHESTER HENDERSON 2 >> Justin Aksu won at first singles to start the Vikings (21) on their way to the ChesMont National victory.

Ben McFalls won at thrid singles for the Warriors (2-1). UNIONVILLE 7, SUN VALLEY 0 >> The Indians (3-0) dropped just three games in sweeping the Ches-Mont American contest. Victor Ali, Daniel Hopping and Brad Saunders all won their singles matches, 6-0, 6-0.

GARNET VALLEY 5, KENNETT

2>> Trent Harner and Davis Piercy won singles matches as the Blue Demons (2-2) fell in the nonleague contest.

DOWNINGTOW­N EAST 6,

BISHOP SHANAHAN 1 >> Jason Listmeier won a three-setter at first setter as the Cougars (2-0) recorded the ChesMont National win. Tristan McBride and Luc DeCecco added singles victories.

Matt Ziegler and Tim Bladja recorded the lone win for the Eagles (0-3).

great Valley 3. Kommoju-Hamanka 5, strath haven 2 >> The Patriots (2-0) won the first five matches in capturing the nonleagu matchup. Nikyil Gangoli and Sameer Gangoli were victorious in second and third singles to help lead the way.

Boys Volleyball

LANCASTER MEENONITE 3, AVON GROVE 0 >> Mike Neils had 31 assists, Tod White had 12 kills and 15 digs and Chase Moyer added seven kills as the Red Devils fell in the nonleague opener, 25-19, 25-20, 25-23.

College Baseball

WEST CHESTER 4, EAST STROUDSBUR­G 3, 9 INNINGS; WEST CHESTER 4, EAST STROUDSBUR­G 1 >> Drew Jarmuz hit a solo home run to lead off the top of the ninth inning of game one, and Eric Close) threw a completega­me six-hitter in the night cap as West Chester swept a PSAC East baseball doublehead­er. West Chester (10-3, 2-0 PSAC East) scored a pair of runs in the top of the ninth and then held on for the extra-inning win in the opener. East Stroudsbur­g (10-8, 0-2) tied the game with an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings.
