Haverford defends home turf, keeps Conestoga at arm’s length

Haverford first baseman Nicholas DeFeo (25) doubles up Conestoga’s Owen Margolis (14) on a fly ball in the third inning at Haverford Monday afternoon. The Fords went on to win, 9-4.

In Ches-Mont baseball action, visting Oxford scored five runs in the final two innings to top Unionville on Monday. Tyler Blittersdo­rf was the winning pitcher and also delievered three extra base hits including a home run. College Baseball

BLUEFIELD 4, LINCOLN 3, BLUEFUELD 2, LINCOLN 1 >> Terence Berry struck out 11 batters in reaching a career milestone for the Lions, but Bluefield State pulled off a doublehead­er sweep against Lincoln in Woodstock, Virginia. The Lions fall to 5-18 overall while Bluefield State improves to 10-14. Berry in his first season back after Tommy John surgery entered the game with 95 career strikeouts and wasted no time in becoming just the second Lincoln pitcher behind Matt Sample (2003-06) to record 100 or more career strikeouts. He struck out two batters in the first inning and proceeded to strike out the side in the second after giving up a pair of walks to open the inning. IMMACULATA 6, CABRINI 3 >> For the second season in a row, the Immaculata baseball team (11-3) has put together a 10-game winning streak after polishing off a Colonial States Athletic Conference sweep of Cabrini. The Macs have now extended their program-best CSAC start to 6-0. Junior Eddie Decker (3-0) was great on the mound as he went six innings and struck out a career-high nine while allowing only two runs. Offensivel­y, senior Jason McCormick (2 R, BB, 3 SB) and senior Matt Simon (2 R, 2 2B, RBI) had three hits each.

Golf

OGLEBAY INTERCOLLE­GIATE INVITATION­AL >> Drew Patterson finished in a threeway tie for first place, and West Chester University’s men’s golf squad finished tied for fifth overall at the Oglebay Intercolle­giate Invitation­al on the Arnold Palmer Design course at Oglebay Resort. Patterson signed for a tournament-low and career-best 67 on Monday and finished the 36-hole event five-under-par at 137. University of Charleston’s Viktor Pustwo and Millersvil­le’s Connor Sheehan equaled that total and the three set back out onto the course for a playoff. That playoff lasted five holes with Charleston’s Pustwo claiming the individual title.
