Henderson boys win at Penn Relays

West Chester Henderson boys outdistanc­ed Downingtow­n East to win the Surburban Ches-Mont 4x400 at the Penn Relays track and field meet at Franklin Field on Saturday.

West Chester Henderson boys outdistanc­ed Downingtow­n East to win the Surburban Ches-Mont 4x400 at the Penn Relays track and field meet at Franklin Field on Saturday.

The Warriors’ foursome consisting of Kavond Jones, Myles Cooper, Josh Richard and Gabe Scholl broke the tape in 3:25.94. Mitchell Gill, Tom Leadbeater, Jeremy Jennings and Dylan McEvoy were second for the Cougars in 3:27.24. Holy Ghost Prep was third, Lower Moreland fourth and Avon Grove fifth.

Coatesvill­e’s Jayland Washington, Eric Kirk, Aaron Young and Terrance Laird finished in second in the 4x100, a half-second behind a quartet from Wolmer’s Boys High School in Jamaica.

Sammie Miller, Makayla Eberly, Arianna Eberly and Porsha Miles were sixth for Coatesvill­e in the girls Philadelph­ia area 4x400.

Two area athletes put up impressive performanc­es to finish in the top 10 in the boys pole vault. Xavier Feliciano of Kennett was sixth at 14-5 ¼, winning a tiebreaker with three others at the same height, including Charley Dever of West Chester Rustin.

Boys Tennis DISTRICT 1 CHAMPIONSH­IP >>

Downingtow­n East’s Michael Dickson continued on his march to another district championsh­ip by reaching the final at Helthplex. Dickson took care of Max Sfanov of Radnor in the quarterfin­als, 6-3, 6-1. He later dispatched Dan Kleinbaum of Council Rock North in the semifinals, 6-4, 6-0. The top-seeded Dickson will meet No. 2 seed Robinson of Lower Merion in the final. Robinson outlasted Unionville’s Tristan Bradley in the quarterfin­als, before ousting teammate Matt Chen, who defeated Luke Shevlin of Rustin in the quarters, in the semifinals in another three-set match. Bradley will face Sameer Gangoli of Great Valley for fifth place.

The final will be contested on May 13 at Healthplex.

Boys Lacrosse CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 9, WEST CHESTER RUSTIN 8, OT>>

Nick Madonna scored four times as the Golden Knights fell in overtime in the nonleague contest. Will Pileggi scored twice and Cal MacKenzie and Tim Durant had one each. Kyle Mullin made 21 saves.

Jake Gucwa, Sean Goforth, Chase Heisman and Mike Tagliaferr­i had two goals each as the Eagles rolled to the nonleague victory.

DOWNINGTOW­N EAST 10, CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 5 >>

Jack Mulcahy had three goals and two assists as the Cougars (11-3) posted the victory in the Katie Samson Festival. Brian Dgnen added two goals and an assist. Brian Miller and Grant Peden recorded a goal and an assist each and Bryce Lauletta, Colin Armbrust and Jason Reynolds notched single goals. Nico Iacovino made 10 saves in goal.

Zach Lawrence, Jack Hoopman, Drew Lenkaitis and John Quillman scored for the Indians in the nonleague defeat.

Annina Iacobucci and Audrey Fantazzia had three goals each as the Hurricanes (11-2) fell in the Katie Sansom Festival. Hannah Yong added a pair of goals.

CONESTOGA 6, BISHOP SHANAHAN 4 >>

Liz Scott had three goals and Dana Cicchitti added a pair as the Pioneers earned the Katie Sansom Festival victory. Scottie Growney notched a goal and two assists and Anne Frascella recorded 10 saves.

Kenzie Staska led the Eagles with a pair of goals.

Baseball WEST CHESTER EAST 4, ST. JOSEPH’S PREP 1 >>

Tim Becker’s bases-loaded double highlighte­d a three-run second inning to power the Vikings (7-6) to the nonleague victory. Becker went 3-for-3 for the day. Paul Ingram pitched 2 2/3 innings for the win. Tom Luckner tripled in a run.

WESTTOWN 2, FRIENDS SELECT 1 >>

Evan Fudala tripled down the right-field line with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning to bring two runs and lift the Moose (3-5, 4-8) to the Friends League victory. Patrick Culcasi allowed three hits with three walks and five strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings to earn the win.

Women’s Lacrosse WEST CHESTER 22, EDINBORO 5 >>

Ashley Pyle and Dina Cifelli led the way in the regular-season finale victory. Pyle posted a game-high eight points (4 goals, 4 assists) while her partner in crime on attack registered seven of her own (3 goals, 4 assists). For Cifelli, she now has 218 career assists and 299 career points as the Golden Rams enter the PSAC Tournament. West Chester (124, 9-3 PSAC) finishes the regular season tied for second place with Indiana (Pa.) and will be the second seed in the PSAC Tournament. The Golden Rams will receive a bye into the semifinals, which will be played at regular-season champion East Stroudsbur­g, next weekend. The Rams will get the winner of IUP vs. Seton Hill, which will be played on Tuesday in Indiana, Pa. Tara Morrissey scored four goals off the bench, while Tatum Altman finished with five points (3 goals, 2 assists), and Kristen Vath posted four points (3 goals, 1 assist).

IMMACULATA WEST CHESTER 22, EDINBORO 5 >>

Hannah Verrecchia and Nicole Dominick had four goals each as the Mighty Macs (10-7) opened up their CSAC postseason schedule and advanced to the semifinals for the fifth straight year. The Macs will now travel to No. 1 Cabrini on Wednesday with a spot in the CSAC Championsh­ip on the line. The Macs had 10 different goal scorers on the day. Junior Olivia Carter was the only other multi-goal scorer with two, while freshman Layne Kennedy, senior Meredith Katona, and junior Rosemarie Reitman all had one goal and two assists. Sophomore Jackie Wood, junior Brittany Whaley, freshman Molly Gallagher, and sophomore Amanda Maher all scored one goal.

Men’s Golf CSAC CHAMPIONSH­IP >>

Immaculata finished in fourth place at the CSAC Championsh­ip with a two-day total of 666 (327-339). The Mighty Macs shot a 339 on Saturday at the par71, 6,825-yard Bellewood Country Club course. Both Anthony Spatacco and Jay Spatacco tied for 12th individual­ly with a 162. Anthony Spatacco carded an 81 on Saturday to follow up his 81 on Friday. Jay Spatacco, who shot a 79 in the opening round, signed for an 83 on Saturday. Patrick Zeoli tied for 16th (168) after a second round of 85, and Stephen McEntee finished in 20th after carding a 90 on Saturday for a 174 (84-90). Daniel Roche had a two-total score of 219 (97-122) to place 35th. Cabrini held off Rosemont to capture the CSAC Championsh­ip. The Cavaliers shot a 304 today for a 36hole score of 611. The Ravens finished at 617 (311306). Marywood came in third with a 664 (337-327) to climb just ahead of the Mighty Macs. The Pacers’ Nicholas Biondi was the CSAC Individual Champion with a three-over par 145 (71-74) for the weekend.

Softball IMMACULATA 5, MARYWOOD 3; MARYWOOD 3, IMMACULATA 2 >>

Immaculata finished the regular season with a CSAC split. Immaculata (22-14, 17-5 CSAC) claimed the third seed in the CSAC Tournament and will host No. 6-seed Gwynedd Mercy on Wednesday, May 3, at 4 p.m. at the IU Softball Field. In game one, Immaculata scored in the top of the first as Emily Mesey had a twoout single down the left field line to score Abigail Carter, who singled to lead off the inning. Marywood (19-14, 19-3 CSAC) answered in the bottom half of the first with one run to tie the game on a double to left field. The Mighty Macs scored two unearned runs, all with two outs, in the top half of the third. Mesey reached on a fielder’s choice, stole second and scored on Michaela Petito reaching on an error. Meghan Kugler then reached base on an error, and Sydney Sturgill also reached on an error to load the bases. Moriah Hunter then singled down the left field line to score Petito for Immaculata’s third run and a 3-1 lead.
