Fireworks & Fountains return to Longwood

EAST MARLBOROUG­H >> Fireworks & Fountains illuminate the night sky once again at Longwood Gardens, with six awe-inspiring shows. After a two-year revitaliza­tion, the Main Fountain Garden returns with new dynamic fountain features including jets that propel water as high as 175 feet, new lighting features that can create an infinite number of color combinatio­ns, and a more immersive garden experience.

Fanfare and Fountains

MAY 28, 9:15 P.M. The season of celebratio­n begins with a musical tthe de force inspired by the beauty, grandeur, and fabulous effects of the Main Fountain Garden. From the majestic Fanfare for the Common Man, to Etta James’s iconic At Last, to the driving Firebird finale, this is a showstoppe­r befitting the fountains’ grand return.

Star Spangled Spectacula­r

JULY 2, 9:15 P.M. Well-known patriotic music abounds as we celebrate America. The show begins with The Olympic Fanfare, followed by Victory at Sea, The Colonel Bogey March, The Winds of War, King’s Row, an Armed Forces Medley, The Stars & Stripes, and ends with an exhilarati­ng finale.

A Night at the Movies

JULY 22, 9:15 P.M. Relive favorite movie music classics in this rousing salute to the silver screen. From the stirring “James Bond” theme, to favorites from “ET The Extra-Terrestria­l,” “Back to the Future,” and “The Pink Panther,” to a climatic ending from “Star Wars,” movie—and music—lovers of all ages will relish this show.

Divas of Dance

AUG. 12, 9:15 P.M. Hold on to your seat during this high-energy show featuring hits from an eclectic mix of popular artists including Katy Perry, Madonna, Ariana Grade, Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, Miley Cyrus and more.

Pictures at a Fountain Exhibition

SEPT. 2, 8:15 P.M. Select movements from Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky’s timeless works “Boris Godunov,” “Night on Bald Mountain,” and “Pictures at an Exhibition” are the basis for this soaring and emotional classical show.

Over the Rainbow

SEPT. 16, 8:15 P.M. Travel with Dorothy from her Kansas home to the world of Oz in this dazzling show featuring well-loved tunes from the classic story “The Wizard of Oz.”

Tickets for Fireworks & Fountains Shows go on sale May 1 at 10 a.m. at www. longwoodga­rdens.org. Admission is by advance-sale ticket only and tickets are limited. Fireworks & Fountains tickets include all-day admission to the Gardens. Blankets are not permitted. Guests can select from two ticketing options: Lawn Seating and Reserved Seating.

Lawn Seating

Bring your own chair to the show. Chairs may be set up beginning at 5:30 p.m.. Line forms at 4:30 p.m.. Tickets are $42 ages 19 & over, and $22 for ages 18 & under; $38 for Members ages 19 & over, and $34 for Gardens Preferred and Gardens Premium Members 19 & over, $20 for Members ages 18 & under, and $18 for Gardens Preferred and Gardens Premium Members 18 & under.

Reserved Seating

No need to bring your chair or wait in line. Reserved seating allows you to select your seat when you purchase your ticket, then arrive to your chair already placed and waiting for you. Tickets are $50 for all ages, $45 for Members, and $40 for Gardens Preferred and Gardens Premium Members. Since 1980, nearly half a million guests have enjoyed Longwood’s infamous Fireworks & Fountains Shows that dazzle guests with breathtaki­ng grandeur. A decision to delay or postpone under severe weather conditions is made normally 15 minutes prior to show time, based on local weather conditions at Longwood.

About Longwood Gardens

In 1906, industrial­ist Pierre du Pont (1870-1954) purchased a small farm near Kennett Square, to save a collection of historic trees from being sold for lumber. Today, Longwood Gardens is one of the world’s great horticultu­ral displays, encompassi­ng 1,077 acres of dazzling gardens, woodlands, meadows, fountains, 10,010-pipe Aeolian organ and 4.5-acre conservato­ry. Longwood continues the mission set forth by Mr. du Pont to inspire people through excellence in garden design, horticultu­re, education and the performing arts, through programmin­g that includes exhibition­s, musical performanc­es by leading artists, renowned horticultu­re education programs, horticultu­re research, environmen­tal stewardshi­p and community engagement.
