West Chester University gets two new VPs
WEST CHESTER>> The univeristy recently seelected a couple of new vice presidents.
Effective May 15, Janice Orlov has been named vice president for administration and finance at West Chester University (WCU), the largest of the 14 universities in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) and the fourth largest university in southeastern Pennsylvania.
President Christopher Fiorentino announced the appointment on April 10.
Orlov, who will report directly to the president and serve as a member of the President’s Cabinet, comes to West Chester University with an extensive finance and administration background, She worked in higher education for 15 years and in the private sector for several years prior.
Orlov will oversee the University’s Finance, Budget, and Business Services, as well as Human Resources, Labor Relations, Payroll, Environmental Health and Safety, Organizational Development, Public Safety and Emergency Management, and Facilities. In addition to executing contracts, agreements and legal documents, Orlov will serve as liaison with the external auditors, the Auditor General’s Office, and internal auditors assigned to the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE).
Orlov comes to West Chester University having served in increasingly responsible roles at the University of Pennsylvania. Most recently, she served as senior director of finance and administration for the office of Provost Administrative Affairs, where she was promoted from the role of director of finance for new ventures.
Prior to these recent appointments, she served the Wharton School where she advanced from the position of finance director for Wharton Executive Education to budget director for the School to managing director of finance and operations for Wharton Executive Education.
Her experience as an educator includes teaching for the University of Pennsylvania and Temple University Graduate School of Education. As a researcher, Orlov’s findings were presented in a co-authored article entitled, “Being Who I Am: Effective Teaching, Learning, Student Support, and Societal Change through LGBQ Faculty Freedom,” published in the Journal of Homosexuality.
Orlov began her career as a CPA for Ernst & Young and held financial leadership roles in public and private corporations.
She holds a Doctor of Education in Higher Education Management from the University of Pennsylvania, a Master of Science in Teacher Instruction from Drexel University, a Master of Business Administration from Wilkes University, and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Pennsylvania State University.
Effective February 6, Zebulun Davenport has been named vice president for student affairs at West Chester University. Davenport, who had been serving as interim vice president for student affairs since August 2016, oversees the University’s Division of Student Affairs, which is comprised of a number of offices including Housing and Residence Life, Dining Services, Sykes Student Union, Student Health Services, the Office of Health Promotions, Counseling and Psychological Services, Service-Learning and Volunteer Programs, the Office of Student Involvement, the Larry Dowdy Multicultural Center, Fraternity and Sorority Life, the Office of New Student Programs, the Career Center, the Recreation Center, and the Department of Athletics.
Davenport’s experience in student affairs spans over 25 years, including the past nine years serving as a senior student affairs officer. His expertise includes creating approaches to serving students in urban settings, student retention, student learning outcomes, assessment, strategic planning, as well as strategies for assisting first-generation college students.
Davenport is co-creator of the Changing Institutional Retention through Co-Curricular Learning Experiences (CIRCLE) Model, which engages and links co-curricular service providers in academic and student affairs in a systemic collegial process of institution-wide service delivery.
Among Davenport’s publications is a book that he co-authored, with Lee Ward and Michael J. Siegel, entitled First-Generation College Students – Understanding and Improving the Experience from Recruitment to Commencement (Jossey-Bass, 2012).
Davenport holds a Doctor of Higher Education and Leadership from Nova Southeastern University, a Master of Education in College Student Personnel Administration, and a Bachelor of Science in Communications/Public Relations from James Madison University.
