Agnes J. Sweeney (nee McKay) of Thorndale
Agnes J. Sweeney (nee McKay), age 83 of Thorndale, passed away on Thursday May 11, 2017, at Chester County Hospital.
Agnes was the daughter of the late Mary J. McKay and the wife of Francis H. Sweeney, with whom she shared 60 years of marriage.
Born in Philadelphia, Agnes grew up in Norristown, raised her family in the Roxborough section of Philadelphia, and spent the last thirty years of her life in Thorndale, Chester County.
Agnes attended Norristown High School. A homemaker and mother of five, she also worked part time as a waitress for various restaurants including Lord & Taylor in Bala Cynwyd. Agnes was a member of St. Joseph Church in Downingtown. She enjoyed art, making crafts, reading, birdwatching, but her favorite pastime was spending time with her grandchildren and children.
In addition to her husband Francis, she is survived by her five children, Michael ( Patricia ),Neil (Teresa ), Nora Sweeney ( Jim Sharp), Maureen Sweeney and Christine Richardson. She is also survived by her sister Elaine Goodman ( Bill ), and grandchildren Michael Sweeney, Kelsey Richardson, Frances Sweeney, Megan Sweeney, Luke Richardson and Sophie Sharp, sister in law Gloria McKay and her son Scott ( Elisa ) She was predeceased by her brother Edward McKay.
A Mass of Christian burial celebrating her life will be held on Thursday May 18, 2017 at 11 am at St. Joseph Church, 338 Manor Ave Downingtown, where friends may visit from 9:30 till 10:45 am.
