Collegium wins first playoff game

Collegium Charter won its first playoff game as it rolled to an 18-4 win over Delco Christian in the District 1 Class A baseball tournament Tuesday.

The Cougars (10-6) will face top-seeded Plumstead Christian in the semifinals Thursday.

Matt Wagner pitched 6 2/3 innings with six strikeouts to gain the victory on the mound.

CHESTER EAST 0 » The Vikings were held to four hits in the District 1 Class 5A first-round defeat. Adam Smith, Tim Becker, Jack Driscoll and Tom Luckner recorded hits for East. AVON GROVE 10, CONESTOGA 0, 5 INNINGS » Bryce Carey homered, drove in two and scored twice as the Red Devils recorded the victory in the first round of the District 1 Class 6A playoffs. Tom Jacobs drove in three, while Jake Good collected the shutout, scattering six hits.

UPPER MORELAND 3, WEST CHESTER HENDERSON 0

» The Warriors managed just five hits in losing the first-round district contest. Evan Spano, Zach Roberts, Ian Tracy, James Vito and Brendan Gray collected singles for Henderson.

Softball

WEST CHESTER HENDERSON 11, HARRITON 7 » Cam Trotter went 3-for-4 with two homers and five RBIs to send the Warriors (13- 8) District 1 Class 5A firstround victory. Casey Collins was 2-for-2 and Erin Goulding drove in a pair of runs. Madelyn Skinner tossed a complete game for the win. Henderson will face Kennett or West Chester East on Friday in the second round.

Girls Lacrosse

DOWNINGTOW­N EAST 10, WEST CHESTER RUSTIN 8 » Emily Wurzel had five goals as the Cougars held off the Golden Knights in the consolatio­ns of the District 1 Class 3A playoffs. East secured a state bid while Rustin will host Abington Thursday for the final berth.

VALOR BOWL » The third annual Valor Bowl All-Star basketball games will be held tonight at West Chester Henderson High School. The girls game will start at 6 p.m., with the boys game to follow. The game raises funds to help Chester County Special Olympics. The following are the rosters of seniors expected to participat­e.

AJ BLOSENSKI STEELBIRDS 7, VICTORY BREWING 2 » Andrew Casey went 2-for-3 with two walks, two runs scored and a pair of runs driven in to lead the Steelbirds (6-1) to the Coatesvill­e Adult League victory. Bobby Harper had two hits and two RBIs and Nolan Potter allowed just one hit in three innings to pick up the win.

BRANDYWINE VALLEY SLOWPITCH » Gary Zimmerman homered, tripled and drove in seven runs to power Goshen Beverage to a 28-7 victory over Boss Automotive. Randy Pritzer, Ed Turner, Jose Castro, Don Natale, Tom Starke, Larry Tout and Ron Rubin contribute­d three hits each. Ed Reid hita three-run homer in the ninth inning to spur Avante Spa to a 12-7 win over Spaz Beverage. Avante improed to 9-3.
