KENNETT RECEIVES GOVERNOR’S AWARD

Township’s work on Barkingfield Park lauded

- Staff Report

HARRISBURG >> Kennett Township recently received the 2017 Governor’s Award for Local Government Excellence in Building Community Partnerships.

The award was accepted last week when Township Manager Lisa Moore and Supervisors Scudder Stevens and Whitney Hoffman went to Harrisburg. The award was given for the partnerships involved in the creation of Barkingfield Park.

In addition to the award, the township was also recognized by resolutions in the state House and Senate. Stevens recognized Moore for being the guiding light for making things move along, and she had made this project possible.

“The township has an amazing team and residents, but without a board of supervisors who allowed the team to be forward-thinking, awards like this would not be possible,” Moore said.

Hoffman said she has a video that will be posted on the township’s website.

Moore added that another important thing about the Barkingfield project was the implementation of TDR (Transfer Development Rights), which will be used for a property on North Walnut Road that will have a higher density, allowing for more affordable housing in the township for professionals, like police officers and teachers.
