Bell Tavern Park vandalized, flag stolen

Police are searching for whoever vandalized the Bell Tavern Park and stole the American flag.

The Bell Tavern Park at 105 Bell Tavern Lane in East Caln Township was “severely vandalized.” The trash cans were dumped and knocked around. Multiple exterior overhead lights on the restroom facility were broken. A display case was broken. A PECO meter was completely destroyed, leaving live wires exposed. The American flag was stolen, with the halyard having been cut to remove it. An officer patrolling the area at 11:30 p.m. on May 17 found the damage.

DUI

Downingtow­n police said John C. McMonagle Jr., 60, of Downingtow­n, was found asleep in the driver seat of his running vehicle at 2:45 a.m. on May 20 at the intersecti­on of Chestnut Street and Garfield Avenue. When officers awakened McMonagle, they said he reportedly had slurred speech, glassy

blood shot eyes and a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. After reportedly failed a field sobriety test, McMonagle was placed under arrest for driving under the influence, according to the police report.

Downingtow­n police said John Gregory McCracken, 25, of Gap in Lancaster County, was stopped in the unit block of West Lancaster Avenue after reportedly driving his vehicle the wrong way on a oneway street at 1:45 a.m. on May 20. They officer who approached McCracken said a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was reportedly emanating from McCracken and his passenger and both occupants slurred their words. McCracken reportedly failed a field sobriety test and was arrested for driving under the influence, according to the police report.

Downingtow­n police said they made contact with Ricky Nelson Yarnall, 52, of Coatesvill­e, during a traffic stop in the 200 block of East Lancaster Avenue at 8:45 p.m. on May 17. Police said Yarnall seemed to be having a difficult time turning his vehicle around as he tried to decide where

he was driving. When approached, police said Yarnall had a heavy odor of alcoholic beverage coming from his person. Yarnall reportedly failed a field sobriety test and was placed under arrest for driving under the influence, according to the police report.
