Latest Acme to offer beer, wine sales
The store underwent extensive renovations and added new services. It’s part of a plan by the chain to upgrade its offerings
UPPER UWCHLAN >> Acme Markets has added a new supermarket in the region that sells beer and wine.
The Malvern area-based chain held a grand re-opening of its store in Eagle May 19 after completing an extensive renovation project.
The store in Eagle now includes a Frosted Mug, Acme’s new beer and wine department.
Other new services offered through the renovation are:
• A full-service Butcher Block featuring fresh cut meats prepared daily by on-site butchers and a full-service seafood department;
• Bakery that features hot Italian bread, store-baked cookies and cakes;
• A floral department with a refrigerated feature case for floral arrangements and roses, along with a secondary display for featured flowers;
• An expanded variety of natural, organic and gluten-free products throughout the store;
• A large selection of home meal solutions including expanded fresh cheese offerings and new hot bar.
Acme senior communications coordinator Dana Ward said the chain does not disclose how much it spends on its reno-
vation projects.
“The store was open during renovations,” Ward said. “There was no physical change to the actual store footage; however, there was a total layout change with the relocation of both the customer service desk and floral department. Other enhancements include increased aisle footage, additional organic food offerings, new hot foods selection, an updated décor package, and an expanded produce department complete with new refrigerated cases and tables. In addition, the Eagle Acme is the newest home to The Frosted Mug, ACME’s Beer and Wine department.”
Earlier this year, Acme “reopened” stores in Paoli and in Ridley, Delaware County, after similar renovations.
The supermarket chain, like its competitors, is taking advantage of the state’s new liquor laws that allow the sale of beer and wine in supermarkets that have food areas with seating.
Ward said Acme locations within the region that now have Frosted Mugs are:
Chester County
· 39 Leopard Road, Paoli · 700 West Lancaster Ave., Wayne
· 400 Simpson Drive, Chester Springs
Delaware County
· 1067 West Baltimore Pike, Media

Acme plans to open Frosted Mugs in six additional Pennsylvania locations toward the end of summer, Ward said.
At the recent “reopening” in Eagle, Acme leadership and local officials joined Store Director John Rafter at the ceremony in which the company donated more than $11,000 to local community organizations. In addition, Acme also is donating a park bench made from recycled plastic bags to Upper Uwchlan Township Parks and Recreation.
