J. Marvin Bentley, Jr., 78, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 19, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was the beloved husband of Anna Grace Majors Bentley, with whom he shared 50 years of marriage.

Born in Savannah, Georgia, he was the son of the late Julius Marvin Bentley, Sr. and Margaret Cannon Bentley.

Marvin earned degrees at Davidson College and Tulane University and proudly served his Country in the US Army.

Marvin was a professor of Economics at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida, the University of Pennsylvan­ia and retired as an Associate Professor of Public Affairs from Penn State University – Capital Campus in Harrisburg, where he was a cherished mentor to his students.

Marvin was an Elder and Stephen Minister at First Presbyteri­an Church of West Chester.

He loved golf and baseball, but most of all, he was a loving husband, father and grandfathe­r. Marvin had an open mind, an open heart and was a dear friend to many.

In addition to his wife, Marvin is survived by his two children, Patrick Devant Bentley and his wife Anne, and Meg Bentley and her husband Mark Kazmiercza­k. He is also survived by a sister, Gail Walsh and three grandchild­ren, Jack, Matthew and Paige. He was predecease­d by a brother, William Devant Bentley.

A memorial service will be celebrated at 12 p.m. on Friday, June 2, 2017, at First Presbyteri­an Church of West Chester, 130 W. Miner St., West Chester, where family and friends may call from 10:45 – 11:45 a.m.

Interment will be held privately with the family at a later date.

Arrangemen­ts are being handled by the James J. Terry Funeral Home, Downingtow­n.
