CELEBRATE FATHER’S DAY WITH THIS HEALTHY BURGER RECIPE

T his Sunday is Father’s Day and June also happens to be Men’s Health Month. A great way to celebrate both is by making a heart healthy meal for the fathers and grandfathe­rs in your life.

Laura Washington, personal trainer and nutritioni­st, has provided a burger recipe that’s full of healthy nutrients.

“A chicken burger packed with vegetables is a nice break from a beef burger and a healthier option. These chicken burgers are packed with flavor and easy to make. Also, chicken burgers can be topped with the same great ingredient­s as a beef burgers so have your way with it!” Washington said.

CURRY CHICKEN BURGERS

Makes approximat­ely 6 to 8 full-size burgers or 12 sliders.

INGREDIENT­S

1 lb. ground chicken ¼ cup mushrooms, chopped ¼ cup onions, finely chopped ¼ cup red peppers, chopped ½ teaspoon fresh thyme ½ teaspoon fresh sage ½ teaspoon fresh rosemary 1/3 teaspoon curry powder 1/3 teaspoon garlic powder 1/3 teaspoon onion powder ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes salt and black pepper to taste

INSTRUCTIO­NS

Preheat an outdoor grill to medium heat and lightly oil grill grate. In a large bowl, combine vegetables, herbs and all the spices then mix thoroughly. Add ground chicken and mix with other ingredient­s but try not to over mix the meat. Form patties to desired size and place on the grill. Grill for five to seven minutes on each side, only turning once in order to create the best grill marks and to lock in flavor.
