Bookbinding workshop on tap for Aug. 26 among other events
Historic Sugartown Inc. at 690 Sugartown Road has several events planned for the summer.
The Philadelphia Water Color Society Art Show & Sale to Benefit Historic Sugartown will run July 1 through Oct.1. Work will be on view during weekend tours, Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Free Opening Weekend July 1 & 2. The Art Show & Sale is in the circa 1805 Garrett House. Twentyfive percent of Art Show sales will benefit Historic Sugartown. The William Garrett House is located at 260 Spring Road.
Regular weekend tour admission applies after opening weekend.
A BYOB Scarf Marbling workshop will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, July 14.
Create your own marbled scarf in Historic Sugartown’s Bindery. Marbling is the art of floating and designing watercolors on a base fluid then permanently transferring the design to paper. Colonial Williamsburg-trained instructor, Ramon Townsend of ColonialBindery.com, will lead the group through the entire marbling process. Participants will take home their finished scarves. If scarves aren’t your style, make a marbled tie or bandana.
This is a BYOB event and participants are invited to bring their favorite drinks and snacks.
Cost per Person is $40 for adults 21 and over or 2 for $75. All supplies are included. One finished textile per person. Pre-registration is required.
Class size is limited. Minimum class size of 3 people must be met to run the workshop.
A Hand Bookbinding Level II Workshop will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26.
Learn advanced traditional bookbinding techniques in this unique workshop offered in Historic Sugartown’s Book Bindery. Colonial Williamsburg-trained instructor, Ramon Townsend of ColonialBindery.com, will lead this advanced workshop. Surrounded by a world-class collection of 19th-century bookbinding tools, participants will learn new techniques that are not taught in the basic course such as Rounding & Backing; Headbanding; and Blind Tooling the leather. Participants will take home a ¾ leather or fully leather bound book. This advanced class is only for participants who have taken the introductory Bookbinding I workshop.
Cost is $100 per adult, ages 14 and up, or $85 if you bring your own pre-approved book. All materials are included and tools will be provided.
