Malvern School raises $32K to fight cancer

- Staff Report

During its annual Lemonade Stand Day, the Malvern School raised $32,000 for childhood cancer research.

MALVERN » On June 9, The Malvern School, a leader in early childhood education, held its 10th annual Lemonade Stand Day in partnership with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, to support the nonprofit in its fight against pediatric cancer. All 25 Malvern School locations throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey sold cold, fresh lemonade outside their schools and in one day raised $32,000 – $6,651 more than last year. All proceeds from this one day and The Malvern’s School’s ongoing, four-month fundraising campaign directly benefit childhood cancer research. The goal this year is to raise $110,000 in commemoration of The Malvern School and ALSF’s partnership.

This year, The Malvern School’s fundraising campaign took its fight against childhood cancer online and launched the “Pucker Up for Alex Facebook Challenge.” Through June 30, the public is invited to upload photos to The Malvern School’s Facebook page of themselves making a “puckered expression.” For each photo submitted, The Malvern School will donate $1 to ALSF and for each photo shared, the early childhood provider will donate $2. In addition, The Malvern School is also raising funds through a Virtual Lemonade Stand (https://www.alexslemonade.org/mypage/1314536) as a way for friends, family, neighbors and colleagues to donate to ALSF on behalf of a specific school location or a child at that school. Donors are encouraged to share special messages and to upload photos or videos.

Since partnering with Alex’s in 2008, The Malvern School has raised more than $530,000 to support ALSF’s mission to fund research into new treatments and cures, and to encourage and empower others – especially children – to get involved and make a difference for children with cancer. The legacy began when founder, and then fouryear old, Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996–2004), held her first lemonade stand in her front yard inspiring her namesake foundation and a legacy of hope to find a cure for childhood cancer.
