Agway to likely remain open for a couple of years
WEST GOSHEN» Builder Westrum reported that it will be at least two years, if at all, until the Agway hardware store is shuttered.
It was reported last week that Westrum had proposed building luxury apartments on Matlack Street, at the site of the long-time merchant Agway.
Westrum made a preliminary presentation to township supervisors and staff at last Wednesday’s meeting.
John Tallman, Westrum VP of Land Approvals, released the following statement June 21: “We are in the very preliminary part of a long process and have not formally applied for anything to date. It usually takes at least two years to accomplish permitting to build a site like we are proposing, and three years is not out of the ordinary.
“At present, we are equitable owners of the site, however, settlement will not occur until the municipal development process is complete. As a result, the Agway should remain open at this location for at least a couple years more.”
In Friday’s article, it was incorrectly written that Supervisor Christopher Pielli made a statement rather than asking a question of Westrum representatives.
The supervisor asked whether planned traffic improvements would improve congestion at the Route 202 and Matlack Street intersection, and did not state that they would, as was incorrectly reported.
