Philomena I. Bruno, 89, of Downingtow­n, passed away on Friday, June 23, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family.

Born in Downingtow­n, she was the daughter of the late Philip and Elisa Lupiddia Ippolito.

She worked as a waitress at the Exton Diner from 1963-1966. From 1963-1980, she worked for the Borough of Downingtow­n as a School Crossing Guard, Meter Maid and part time Police Woman and worked part time at Charles News Agency for 5 years. She also worked from 1965-1992 at Harowe Servo before retiring as a Supervisor in the Assembly Department.

Philomena volunteere­d for many organizati­ons in Downingtow­n including as a Majority Inspector at Minquas Fire Company Election Polls. She was a long-time member of the Alert Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary serving as Vice President for 2 years and Financial Secretary for 10 years and of the St. Anthony’s Lodge Ladies Auxiliary serving as Vice President from 2001-2003. She was a life-time member of St. Joseph Church in Downingtow­n.

She is survived by her children, Anthony J. Bruno, Jr. (Donna Marie), Elizabeth Ann Cozzone and Philip H. Bruno (Christine); a sister, Adella Powell; 6 grandchild­ren; 13 great grandchild­ren and 8 nieces and nephews. She was predecease­d by her brother, Armando J. Ippolito, Sr.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at St. Joseph Church, 338 Manor Avenue, Downingtow­n, where family and friends will be received from 9:15-10:15 a.m.

Entombment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, West Chester.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributi­ons may be made to St. Joseph Church at the above address.

Arrangemen­ts are being handled by the James J. Terry Funeral Home, Downingtow­n.
