Campana hurls shutout for Downingtow­n

Nick Campana allowed just three hits in seven shutout innings while Aaron Sipes and Joe Mollenhaue­r knocked in the game’s only runs as Downingtow­n beat Oxford, 2-0, in Chester County Legion League action Tuesday.

Josh Willenbroc­k had a triple and run scored for Downingtow­n (7-3).

BRANDYWINE VALLEY SENIOR » The Browns won Game 1 of the best of three first round series, 10-6, over Double Action. Ernie Devlin had three hits to lead a balanced 16-hit attack. Greg Bussy of Double Action had a grand slam to keep the game close. Winning pitcher Bruce Barton and “Doc” Carrozza’s rallystopp­ing outfield catch led a solid defense that allowed only two runs over the last few innings. The series continues Thursday at Furey Field.

In other action, Goshen Beverage defeated United Sports, 12-6. Don Natale had four hits for Goshen and Randy Pritzker added three. Mike Szczerba was the winning pitcher.

LifeSmokeV­apor.com broke up a 2-2 tie with a four-run sixth inning to defeat Boss Automotive, 8-3. Bruce Gilbert, Ken Ross and Mike Shone had the key RBI hits. Shone and Tom Tidball each had three hits while Jim Finlan, Mike Dalesio and Steve Berk added two hits each. Larry Riggs played a fine defensive game to earn the pitching win for Lynn Curry.

CHES-DEL SENIOR SOFTBALL » In the semifinals of the league playoffs, the Optimum Physical Therapy Legends defeated Sloan Ford, 12-9. Jack Freehoff and John Herr had three hits for the Legends. Gary Zimmerman had two hits, including a triple, and Jim Singel, Tom Daley, Rob Giacomucci, Bob Shemonsky, and John Spangler each had two hits.

Basketball

JUST-A-CHANCE ALUMNI LEAGUE » Leroy Hoggard’s buzzer-beating 3-pointer provided the highlight of the night as The Ridgeways beat W.C. East, 52-49. Hoggard was the game’s top scorer with 17 points, while Amari Taylor had 13 for W.C. East.

In other action, Gemil Holbrook had 20 points to lead The County to a 58-50 win over The Rightous Felons, who were led by Naveem Mohobidan’s 15 points. Great Valley beat the Chester County Mutts, 50-36, thanks to Kyle Stackhouse’s 16 points. Jason McCormick had 15 for the Mutts. In the last game of the night, the Diamond State Warriors beat W.C. Henderson, 55-33. Shaddy Lewis led Diamond State with 24 points while Brendan O’Brien had 17 for Henderson.
