DOWNINGTOWN » Police responded to two shootings Sunday night, one of which injured one person; the shootings are believed to be related incidents.

Downingtown police made one arrest in the shootings and are seeking the public’s help with additional information.

Police said they responded at about 8:53 p.m. Sunday to an apartment complex in the unit block of Gable Avenue in Downingtown for a report of shots fired. Upon police arrival, the officers said they found a man who had been shot in the upper torso. He was transported to the hospital for treatment and has since

been released.

Detectives and forensic personnel responded to the scene to assist with the investigation, and they located a firearm, police said in a press release. Just more than two hours after this incident occurred, police were dispatched for another report of shots fired.

Police responded at about 11 p.m. Sunday to the 100 block of Brandywine Avenue. At that crime scene, police said they found evidence that a gun had been fired. Chester County Detectives responded

to the second scene and processed it. Police said they did not find evidence that anyone had been struck by the gunfire, and a second firearm was recovered at this scene.

Police said both shootings are believed to be related at this point. Police said one suspect is in custody and a warrant is being issued for a second suspect. Police did not name either of the suspects. No further information was available Monday.

“Municipal police departments have to be prepared to respond to an emergency at a moments notice,” Downingtown Mayor Josh Maxwell said Monday. “I’m proud that our police officers

so quickly responded, processed the scene, secured the weapons used, made an arrest and issued a warrant for another suspect. While we can’t control when these things happen, we can be prepared and our police officers were.”

Police ask that anyone with video footage or additional information contact the Downingtown Police Department at 610269-0263.
