Emily S. Windle ‘Winnie’ of Coatesville

-

Emily S. Windle “Winnie”, 94, passed away peacefully July 7, 2017 after a short illness.

Emily was born in 1923 to J. Werner and Helen C. Schmitt of Sugartown, PA (that must have been the root of her sweetness). She married the late Spencer L. Windle in 1946 and remained by his side for 67 years.

She was a lifelong member of Downingtown Baptist and currently Windsor Baptist Church. Emily attended Willistown Elementary School and graduated from T.E. High School in 1942.

Emily served as an Observer for the US Army/Aircraft Warning Service during World War II. She loved kids and was “Winnie” to the many kids she cared for as their babysitter and in the church nursery. She enjoyed winter and snow and LOVED to ski. She was sweet and kind and lovable and the truest of friends. Emily’s joy came from the friends and relationships she nurtured till the end.

She was a devoted and faithful wife, mom and servant of the Lord. We will all miss her so much.

Emily was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Spencer, her brother Herbert Schmidt, sister Eleanor Zuber, and her beloved daughter Suellen Resch. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law Louise and Mark Thomas of Mountaintop, her sister and niece, Phyllis and Sheryl of Selinsgrove, and her two “grand kitties” Bean and Bumper.

Funeral services for Emily will be held on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at 11 AM from the Windsor Baptist Church, 213 Little Conestoga Rd., Eagle, PA where friends may visit with the family from 9:30 to 10:45 AM. In keeping with Emily’s wishes and a daughter’s promise there will not be a viewing.

Interment: Forks of the Brandywine Cemetery

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions in her memory to Windsor Baptist Church Building Fund, PO Box 596, Uwchland, PA 19480 or the American Cancer Society.
