Christina Hartman announces run for congressional seat
The Democrat is aiming for a rematch against U.S. Rep. Lloyd Smucker, R-16
WEST CHESTER » Christina M. Hartman, the 2016 Democratic candidate for Pennsylvania’s 16th Congressional District, has announced that she intends to challenge U.S. Rep. Lloyd Smucker, R-16, for a rematch in 2018.
A nonprofit leader whose career has focused on both national and international policy, Hartman brings a demonstrated track record of success to her campaign. Often charged with developing strategic plans, troubleshooting failing projects, and supporting teams through times of change, Hartman has led and managed high-profile organizations around the globe.
In 2016, Hartman upended conventional wisdom about the 16th Congressional District and Democratic politics, changing the narrative on a “solid Republican” district to one that became a toss-up and bellwether race for the nation. Her notable performance won praise from pundits and locals alike – and Hartman’s campaign plans to use that momentum and energy to propel them to victory in 2018.
“My decision today is about a job left unfinished,” Hartman said. “I’m running for Congress to protect the health care of millions of Americans, to embrace into our community those who are seeking refuge, and to stop Wall Street from preying on ordinary Americans for its own relentless greed.”
“Our work isn’t done yet,” Hartman said. “I’m excited to say that we’re going to finish the job and flip this seat in 2018.”
