Margaret Mary ‘Peggy’ Welsh of Paoli

Margaret Mary “Peggy” Welsh, 86, passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2017.

Peggy was born on March 24, 1931 in the Bronx, New York to the late William Francis and Bridget (Morahan) Murphy. She graduated from Holy Cross Academy and attended the Katherine Gibbs School and Hunter College.

Peggy began her career working for Batten & Barton & Durstine & Osborn (BBDO) on Madison Avenue in New York City. She later resumed her career working for many years and eventually retiring from the Unisys Corporatio­n.

After meeting at a (now closed) resort in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvan­ia, Peggy married the love of her life, Edward Francis Welsh, on June 9, 1956. They started married life in Jackson Heights, Queens, New York, and shortly thereafter moved to Paoli, Pennsylvan­ia. After moving to Paoli, they maintained their love of New York City, visiting often and attending hundreds of Broadway shows over the years. Peggy was an avid piano player. She loved to read and travel, and most enjoyed her visits to Ireland, Europe, and Australia. Peggy was an active parishione­r of St. Norbert’s Catholic Church for over 50 years. She was generous with her time and talent, serving on several committees at St. Norbert’s, and was part of the Saturday evening choir. She was also an Easttown Library Board member and a member of the Great Valley Women’s Club.

Peggy was a blessing as a wife, mother, grandmothe­r and great-grandmothe­r. She is survived by her loving husband, Edward and their children Patricia (Terry) Balko, Elizabeth (James) Ferrigno, Michael (Nancy) Welsh, James (Patricia) Welsh, Mary (Gregory) Sendi, and Matthew Welsh; 16 grandchild­ren and 2 great grandchild­ren.

Visitation will be Friday, July 14 from 10:00 to 11:00 am with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow immediatel­y at St. Norbert’s Catholic Church, Paoli, PA. Graveside services will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Philadephi­a PA.

Memorial contributi­ons may be made to Paoli Hospital, Paoli PA.
