WCU named ‘Great College to Work For’
West Chester University was named one of 2017’s “Great Colleges to Work For” by a national news outlet.
WEST CHESTER » West Chester University (WCU) has been named one of this year’s “Great Colleges to Work For” by The Chronicle of Higher Education, a prominent news source dedicated to covering national higher education issues. The results were released in The Chronicle’s 10th annual report on The Academic Workplace and are based on an employee survey conducted at 232 institutions nationwide. The survey is the largest and most comprehensive workplace study in higher education, and recognizes universities and colleges that earn top ratings from their employees on workforce practices and policies.
Of the 232 institutions that participated in the 2017 survey, 79 have been recognized as a 2017 Great College to Work For. Results are reported for large, medium, and small institutions, with West Chester University included among the large universities with 10,000 or more students. WCU achieved distinction in the category of “Tenure Clarity & Process (four-year colleges only).”
“The Chronicle of Higher Education’s Great Colleges to Work For program affirms what many of us have known for a long time,” said WCU President Christopher M. Fiorentino. “West Chester University is a great college to work for because of our shared goal of advancing student success in an environment where everyone contributes and everyone matters.”
“Any college or university that’s on the list is showing that they emphasize one of their most valuable assets: their faculty and staff,” said Liz McMillen, editor of The Chronicle.
The survey results are based on a two-part assessment process: an institutional audit that captured demographics and workplace policies, and a survey administered to faculty, administrators, and professional support staff. The primary factor in deciding whether an institution received recognition was the employee feedback.
To administer the survey and analyze the results, The Chronicle worked with ModernThink LLC, a strategic human capital consulting firm that has conducted many “Best Places to Work” programs, surveying numerous employees nationwide.
