Pa. Hunt Cup set for Sunday, Nov. 5
WEST MARLBOROUGH » The 83rd running of the historic Pennsylvania Hunt Cup will again take place on the first Sunday in November, Nov. 5. It is located on Newark Road near Upland Road.
The gates open to the public at 10:30 a.m. Parking subscriptions are sold both in advance and on race day. All parking is per car – all occupants are included. Directions and subscriptions are available on the PHC website: www. pahuntcup.org.
The 4-mile Pennsylvania Hunt Cup is the race day feature along with a full card of timber races, a flat race, the Junior Pony races, a sidesaddle invitational, a carriage parade, and a visit from Mr. Stewart’s Cheshire foxhounds. The Holiday Boutique shops will be open for shopping all day. Pack a tailgate or purchase hot food and drinks near the Big Tent. Races run rain or shine. Enjoy the rolling hills and fall colors of Chester County along with exciting steeplechase racing. Weather-appropriate attire is recommended.
The Pennsylvania Hunt Cup races began in Whitemarsh in 1921. After a hiatus, the race meet was renewed on the present Unionville course in 1964. Since that date the Pennsylvania Hunt Cup Committee has contributed over $1.3 million to a number of outstanding local beneficiaries. This year the main beneficiary is the Chester County Food Bank whose outstanding program distributed 2.7 million pounds of food to Chester County residents last year.
