Police have arrested a 28-year-old King Street resident for the stabbing of a 35-year-old man at the corner of South and Washington streets over the weekend.

Michael Rodgers, who also goes by Mikayla, was arrested on Saturday night following the stabbing — the borough’s second in as many weeks.

Sgt. Mick Markovitch said the report of a stabbing was received at 10:27 p.m. Saturday.

Officers arrived to find Anthony Levan, 35, a Pottstown resident, laying on the sidewalk holding his abdomen “just above the waistline.”

Levan identified his assailant to police and officers proceeded to Rodgers’ address on King Street and there found Rodgers as well as the knife police believe to have been used in the assault.

Levan was transported by Goodwill Ambulance to Reading Hospital’s trauma center.

Rodgers faces assault charges and is now in Montgomery County Jail awaiting a hearing.

Markovitch said Levan told the police he and Rodgers were having an argument about Levan’s grandmother when he was stabbed.

Markovitch also told The Mercury that police have not yet apprehended Steven Holmes, the man who police say stabbed Diamonde Stone on High Street July 30, killing him.

“We’re still following up on some leads and we’ve had a lot of people calling in,” Markovitch said.

According to court records, the July 30 stabbing occurred because of an argument “over $20.”

A witness told police that before fleeing, Holmes re-entered an apartment where he was staying with blood all over his left arm and told a witness he had retaliated against Stone for punching him, according to court records.

Anyone with information on the July 30 murder is asked to contact Pottstown Police at 610970-6570 or the Montgomery County Detective Bureau at 610278-3368.
