Festival of Flight will be held this weekend
NEW GARDEN » If you like aviation entertainment, you won’t want to miss the 46th annual Festival of Flight that will be held this weekend, Aug.19 and Aug. 20, at the New Garden Flying Field in Toughkenamon.
“It is definitely our biggest event of the year,” said airport director John Martin.
The festivities will kick off as a sky diving team will jump with the American flag, and then complete a wing suit routine.
Visitors will have the chance to see incredible feats as daring pilots take to the sky to perform world-class aerobatics. There will be a rescue demo from the U.S. Coast Guard with the MH65 Dolphin helicopter.
Antique and classic planes will be on display like World War II bombers B25 and TBM. The Spirit of Freedom C-54, which took part in the Berlin Airlift will be on display in what is being called a “flying museum,” upon which visitors will be able to step aboard.
In addition to the spectacles taking place in the air, there will also be plenty to see on solid ground. This year’s Festival of
Flight will feature performances by America’s Sweethearts, a female trio of singers performing in the style of the Andrews Sisters.
The events will also include a vintage car show Saturday morning, and a 5K run on the runway Sunday morning featuring cash prizes and medals.
The instructors of the New Garden Flight School will be there to answer questions of those interested in learning to fly. They will also be offering a chance to win a free introductory flight course, entry in the contest will be free. Their repertoire spans many decades and is full of harmonies meant for the whole family.
In addition to the entertainment there will be plenty of food vendors as well as a beer and wine garden.
Advance tickets are $15 for adults and $7 for children, and at the gate will be $20 for adults and $10 for children. Tickets can be purchased online at newgardenflyingfield.com.
