‘Joke Man’ coming to Kennett Flash

- Staff Report

Jackie “The Joke Man” Martling, a true master of comedy, will be coming to Kennett Square this Saturday.

KENNETT SQUARE » Jackie “The Joke Man” Martling, a former sidekick on the Howard Stern Show and a true master of comedy, will be coming to Kennett Square at the Kennett Flash this Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. “The Joke Man” will bring his infamous comedic act to the intimate Kennett Flash, and is sure to deliver an unforgettable night of laughs. Limited tickets remain for the early show, so a second show was added by popular demand.

Tickets are $30 in advance of the show, and $35 the day of show. Tickets available online at www. kennettflash.org. The Flash is located at 102 Sycamore Alley, Kennett Square. This performance includes adult themes and language.

Jackie Martling was born and raised in East Norwich, a tiny hamlet on the North Shore of Long Island. He graduated in 1966 from Oyster Bay High School and earned a degree in mechanical engineering from Michigan State University in 1971. In March 1979, to promote the fledgling Long Island comedy scene and the stand-up shows he was producing, he created a joke hot line, “Use Your Finger! Dial (516) 922WINE!,” which has been in uninterrupted operation ever since.

In 1982, after founding “Governor’s Comedy Shop” in Levittown on Long Island and touring as a national headliner, on a suggestion from a Washington, D.C. comedy club owner, he blindly sent his three self-produced LP’s to Howard Stern upon Howard’s arrival at WNBC-AM in New York City. Howard called him to make a guest appearance on his radio show. In 1986, Jackie became a full-time cast member and the head writer of Stern’s radio and TV shows, and as they say, the rest is history. For 18 years (1983-2001) Martling was a fixture of radio and television’s Howard Stern Show.

Martling still works all around the country performing his solo act of rapid-fire filthy jokes and the classic finale, “Stump The Joke Man,” and guests on many of the top national radio shows and podcasts. Remaining ever current with comedy, he tweets a joke every day at 4:20 p.m. on his Twitter account.

Jackie Martling will release his autobiography: “The Joke Man: Bow To Stern” in October of this year. A member of the notorious Friar’s Club, Martling’s acerbic brand of blue comedy is sure to fill the Kennett Flash with raucous laughter.

Opening for Martling is Rich Harkaway. Harkaway has been in the comedy business for 30 years with a long break in the middle to become a urologic surgeon. His relaxed brand of dark humor makes him a fan favorite wherever he goes and he has shared the stage with David Brenner, Kevin Hart, and Jim Gaffigan.
