Sweet Jane’s Wish Foundation is a fund of the Chester County Community Foundation and honors the memory of Jane Gerlach Booge who trag- ically lost her battle with breast cancer at age 47. Jane attended Downingtown High School from 1981 to 1984 and was a member of the girl’s tennis team. Her quiet confidence and positive attitude took her to numerous championship matches including districts and state competitions. Jane was well known off the court for her compassion and friendship to many. After graduating from Penn State University she cared for the children of many families in Chester County as the Director of The Chesterbrook Academy at Lionville, PA. Jane later worked as an instructional aide at Uwchlan Hills Elementary School.
“This is always a funfilled event with lots of prizes and awards,” said Jennifer Jones, Golf Outing chairperson. The live auction will feature rounds of golf, vacation trips, sports memorabilia, a party bus and four tickets to a Penn State football game, meals from local restaurants and much more. The highlight of the evening will feature the auction of four original prints by local artist Richard Bollinger who will be on hand to sign and personalize the prints. In addition, this year, a $10,000 hole-in-one cash prize has been added on a very makeable par-three hole.
The proceeds that are realized from the outing are used to grant scholarships to graduating senior boys and girls at Downingtown East and West High Schools who have participated in girl’s tennis and girls and boys ice hockey programs and will be continuing their education at an accredited college, university or trade school. To date, the foundation has granted over $35,000 in scholarships. Last year, it also donated $2,500.00 to Living Beyond Breast Cancer. LBBC supports families who are going through the crisis of breast cancer and have to cope with expenses not covered by insurance and related Issues.
