Richard Allen McCombs, age 68, of Downingtow­n, PA, passed away on Friday, September 1, 2017, at home surrounded by his loving family. Richard was born in West Chester, PA, to the late William F. and Helen (Work) McCombs. Richard was a graduate of the Scott High School, of Coatesvill­e. In 1968, Richard served in the United States Air Force as a Security Policeman. Following his military discharge, Richard worked for Johnson Matthey as a laborer.

Richard loved baseball, and followed the Philadelph­ia Phillies, Reading Phillies, and attended any games he could with his father. Between farmers markets and mud sales, Richard enjoyed collecting antique trinkets. Amongst his treasured possession­s, he had an original Buddy Lee doll he bought as a child, he was so proud of, it was his first big purchase. The doll was 5.00 and it was in the center window of the Army Navy store in Coatesvill­e. Buddy Lee was a mascot for Buddy Lee (Lee jeans) jeans. He loved his notorious red truck, and enjoyed polishing it every chance he could get. Richard loved visiting Gettysburg, and was very knowledgea­ble on the history behind the historic battle site. He also enjoyed watching the trains at the Strasburg station. He was a proud member of the Thorndale Fire House.

In addition to his parents, Richard is preceded in death by his daughter Beth Ann, and grandson Nathaniel Thomas Brady.

Richard is survived and missed by his wife of 46 years, Bonnie McCombs, daughter Linda McCombsBro­wn (Mark), and his three grand-birds; Doodlebug, Squirt, and Nibbles.

Relatives and friends are invited to Richards Funeral Services on Wednesday, September 6, 2017, at 10:30AM, at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Avenue, Downingtow­n, PA, where friends may call from 9:30-10:15AM. Burial will follow to Philadelph­ia Memorial Park, Frazer, PA. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Richards name can be made to the Neighborho­od Health Inpatient Hospice, 400 E. Marshall St, West Chester, PA 19380.
