POTTSTOWN » Montgomery County Community College has announced that it is reorganizing its workforce development efforts and relocating the initiative to the college’s Pottstown campus.

Leading the initiative is David DiMattio, who has been named vice president of Workforce Development and Continuing Education, a new position for the college.

DiMattio has served as vice president for the west campus since 2016 and also served as the college’s dean of the STEM division. He said he continue to build relationships in the Pottstown community and across the county in his new role.

“Over the last 15 months as vice president of the west campus, I have met with numerous employers and developers in the greater Pottstown area. The need for workforce efforts are seen locally and throughout the county,” DiMattio said. “The college is proud to reinvigorate their efforts in workforce starting with a hub in Pottstown and working our way into the county. It is exciting to have the Pottstown community lead by example.”

effect Wednesday, includes the relocation of MCCC’s Workforce Development team to the former University Center building on the west campus in Pottstown. It is anticipated that the west campus has the physical space necessary to grow and develop training programs, in addition to those at other locations, that will provide workforce education and training opportunities to businesses and residents of Montgomery County.

“I think that with any type of workforce initiative it casts the net even

wider to attract students to think about higher education. Sometimes people think about college as what they see on TV and the bricks and mortar dormitory lifestyle. That’s the last thing we have here,” DiMattio said in an interview on Friday.

In making the announcement, MCCC President Kevin Pollock said DiMattio is a “seasoned administrator who has built strong connections with business and industry in the county.”

“This reorganization further emphasizes the college’s investment in Workforce Development and elevates the visibility of those efforts within the college, to the county, and to our

external business constituents with whom we are partnering,” he added.

The college’s Career Services will also report to DiMattio in the new structure.

“I am confident that this reorganization will strengthen the college’s Workforce Development capabilities, broaden the college’s role as an anchor institution in Pottstown, and will generally benefit the county and the college,” Pollock added.

DiMattio said that his immediate goal is to keep working to build relationships.

“But for Pottstown specifically, I think this is our time to shine. This appointment is countywide, but I

would love to have multiple success stories starting in Pottstown and have the rest of the county looking to Pottstown as the example,” he added.

While there is no immediate indication about new positions that may be added to the Pottstown campus as a result of the move, a spokesman for MCCC said there is potential to add additional staff to the Workforce Development department based on growing demand.

Montgomery County Community College’s Workforce Development department offers a variety of “Fast-Track to Employment” programs, which can be completed in less than one year. The programs

are designed for individuals looking to transition to a new industry or career.

In addition, it also offers a variety of industry certification programs, and works closely with employers to create customized training solutions for their employees. For more information on Workforce Development at MCCC, visit www.mc3.edu/workforcedevelopment.

MCCC will continue to offer a wide variety of Workforce Development and Continuing Education programs at the central campus in Blue Bell, and at the Culinary Arts Institute in Lansdale. The college will also continue to offer its current portfolio of academic programs

and student services at the Pottstown campus.

DiMattio began working at MCCC in March 2014 as dean of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) before being named vice president of the West Campus in 2016. He previously served as dean of Clare College at St. Bonaventure University in New York. He holds a Ph.D. in physics from the University of Missouri-Rolla as well as Master of Science and Bachelor of Science degrees in physics from St. Bonaventure University.
