Staff volunteer at Chesco Food Bank

DEVON » The Senior Staff from Surrey Services for Seniors in Wayne spent the morning at the Chester County Food Bank in Exton inspecting, sorting and repacking food in preparation for distribution by the Food Bank.

“Surrey is honored to volunteer with the Chester County Food Bank,” said Bob Madonna, Surrey’s CEO. “We’re keenly aware of food insecurity, especially among older adults and are happy to help.”

According to The State of Senior Hunger in America report millions of older Americans are at risk for hunger. In 2014, over 15 percent of adults aged 60-plus in the US were at risk. Also food insecurity is growing among older adults. The percentage of older adults facing the threat of hunger has more than doubled.

“Surrey cares deeply about food and nutrition,” said Madonna. “From delicious, nutritious, affordable lunches at our centers to nutrition classes to Meals-on-Wheels, Surrey is proud to help older adults have better nutrition.”

“Surrey is proud to be part of the network of amazing agencies and organizations that work to help seniors,” said Linda DiMaggio, director of Membership and Volunteering at Surrey. “We engage volunteers from the community to help us support efforts in the community as well as volunteering ourselves.”
