Tractor trailer fire delays traffic
The westbound lanes were shut down during part of the incident
CALN » A tractor trailer that caught fire delayed traffic on the Route 30 Bypass Tuesday morning.
Thorndale Fire Company was dispatched shortly after 7 a.m. on Tuesday to the Bypass westbound between routes 113 and 322 in Caln for a report of a dump truck on fire. Thorndale requested assistance from Lionville Fire Company and Coatesville VA and due to the reports of the working vehicle fire.
Caln Township Deputy Fire Marshal Raymond Stackhouse, who oversaw the incident, said that upon arrival the firefighters could see that the contents of the truck were on fire. He said that the trailer part of the tractor trailer was on fire and the residential trash that it had transported had caught on fire. The cover of the trailer had burnt off, but the truck itself was not severely damaged, according to Stackhouse. No injuries were reported.
Firefighters deployed two hand lines to put a knock on the fire, and Stackhouse said the firefighters also used foam because it was a deep-seeded fire.
Thorndale fire police shut down the westbound lanes at the interchange to allow firefighters to operate safely and soon after the fire police opened one
lane of traffic when Stackhouse said the firefighters could continue to operate safely with traffic passing. The tractor trailer was on the shoulder of the road. The westbound ramp for the bypass was also closed during the incident which occurred at about the middle of the interchanges. The crews cleared the scene at about 8:30 a.m.
