Police make DUI, public intoxicati­on arrests

COATESVILL­E » Police made a DUI arrest during Labor Day weekend, which coincided with the national “drive sober or get pulled over” campaign.

Coatesvill­e police observed a vehicle reportedly swerving, driving slower than the speed limit and erraticall­y braking, which police noted are indicators of an intoxicate­d driver. Police conducted a traffic stop at 2 a. m. on Saturday in the 700 block of East Lincoln Highway and made contact with driver, Ryan Betty, of Chester, Delaware County. Police said he was clearly intoxicate­d and he was taken into custody for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Public drunkennes­s

Coatesvill­e police heard a man yelling and who appeared to be intoxicate­d at 9: 45 p. m. on Sunday in the 700 block of East Lincoln Highway. Police said they made contact with Bryan Riegner, of Coatesvill­e, who they described as clearly intoxicate­d and had smelled of alcohol. Riegner was reportedly off balance, slurring his words and became belligeren­t while speaking to police, according to the police report. He was taken into custody for public drunkennes­s and housed at the police station until sobered, according to the report.

Coatesvill­e police said Shannon Torres, 33, of Coatesvill­e, was arrested for public intoxicati­on after an alleged fight. Police said he resisted arrest and reportedly damaged a police car during the incident on Aug. 30 shortly after midnight. Police said Torres was also arrested for his 11 summary warrants for his arrest.

DUI crash

Coatesvill­e police investigat­ed a three- vehicle crash on Saturday, Aug. 23 at about 4 p. m. at South First Avenue and East Lincoln Highway. Police said that driver Chad Stout, 43, of West Grove, was found to reportedly be under the influence of an unknown narcotic and was arrested for driving under the influence and related charges.

Aggravated assault on a police officer

A Coatesvill­e police officer observed two people standing in the entry way to a closed down business in the 200 block of East Lincoln Highway and asked them to leave because they were not permitted to be there. Police said that Christophe­r Bennett, of Coatesvill­e, reportedly ignored the request to leave at 10: 30 p. m. on Saturday. Police asked him for his identifica­tion, which he reportedly also refused several times. Police said that when Bennett reached for his book bag, the officer grabbed Bennett to stop him and a struggle ensued where police said Bennett allegedly struck the officer in the chest with his elbow and then hit the officer in the head. The officer took Bennett into custody and charged him with aggravated assault, obstructin­g administra­tion of law or other government­al function and related charges.

Warrant

Coatesvill­e police investigat­ed a suspicious vehicle on Saturday at 11: 45 p. m. in the 300 block of West Harmony Street. Police said they made contact with Michael A. Lambert Jr., of Coatesvill­e, who had a criminal warrant out of Valley Township Police Department and a county bench warrant for his arrest. He was transporte­d to the police station and held for constables.

Coatesvill­e police said they came into contact with Thomas Johnson, 41, of Coatesvill­e, on Monday at 7: 18 p. m. in the 100 block of South Fourth Avenue and determined that he had two bench warrants out of Chester County. Police said that Johnson cooperated when they approached him and took him into custody without incident.

Coatesvill­e police said they were on foot patrol when they came into contact withMalik Newtown,

24, of Coatesvill­e, at about 11 p. m. on Monday in the 600 block of East Lincoln Highway and determined that he had a probation bench warrant with full extraditio­n out of Georgia. Police took him into custody without incident.
