Great Valley girls come through in second half to top Shanahan

Cali Capetola and Cassidy Hoops scored in the second half to lift Great Valley to a Ches-Mont League girls soccer win over Bishop Shanahan.

Libby Gogan notched an assist and Lauren Birchler made seven saves for Great Valley.

The Knights got a first half goal from Kendall Ammerman and it stood up as Rustin nipped the Vanguards. Gaby Sabeckis and Katie Chisholm notched assists and Nicole Cousens got the shutout in goal for Rustin (2-0, 4-1 overall). UNIONVILLE 4, KENNETT 0 » Sammi Ciccarelli scored twice to lead the Indians past the Demons. Veronica Cantor and Jackie Hug also scored for Unionville (2-0, 4-1). Goalie Abby Hug notched the shutout for the Indians. AVON GROVE 5, COATESVILL­E 2 » Jamie Perkins scored twice to power the Devils past the Raiders in a Ches-Mont match. Sarah Robinson chipped in with 43 digs and Kaitlyn Baker had 22 assists for Oxford. POPE JOHN PAUL II 3, VILLA MARIA 2 » The Hurricanes fell 20-25, 25-21, 25-23, 2225, 15-13 in non-league action. Liz Acchione led the way for Villa with 16 kills, 15 digs and three blocks. Kelsey Hoff (42 assists), Millie Collins (seven kills, seven blocks) and Nicole Cooney (10 kills, 11 digs) also contribute­d for Villa Maria (20, 2-1 overall). MILLER HONORED BY CIAA » Lincoln strong safety/linebacker Deion Miller was named the Central Intercolle­giate Athletic Associatio­n (CIAA) Defensive Back of the Week for his performanc­e on Saturday against Lincoln (Missouri). A junior, Miller becomes the first Lincoln defensive player to earn CIAA weekly honors since Brion Robinson earned Defensive Back of the Week in 2013 and the first Lions player at any position to receive a CIAA Weekly Award since the 2015 season.

Miller recorded a career high 17 tackles which included a school record 14 solo tackles. Five of those tackles came in the red zone, three of which stalled two separate Blue Tiger drives in which Lincoln (Mo.) failed to put points on the board.
