One hospitalized after house fire in Easttown
EASTTOWN » Firefighters quickly battled a house fire on Thursday afternoon.
Paoli firefighters responded to the 1500 block of Sugartown Road in Easttown at 2:18 p.m. Thursday for a report of smoke in the building. Paoli Battalion Chief Harrison Holt said that one occupant, who had exited the burning home prior to police arrival, had been transported to Paoli Hospital for possible smoke inhalation. No other injuries were reported.
Holt said the first-in crews entered the back of the home with a hose line to attack the fire in the front of the home on the first floor. He said they made a quick knock on the fire and it was placed under control at 2:42 p.m.
“The crews did a fantastic job. They worked together as a team. They had the fire under control quickly,” Holt said. “It’s a team effort with all the fire companies and everyone did a tremendous job.”
Holt said the fire was mostly contained to one room on the first floor with some extension and there is smoke damage throughout the home. He said the cause of the fire is under investigation by the Chester County Fire Marshal’s office and Pennsylvania State Police, as protocol.
He added that it was a hot day and between the temperature, the heat from the fire and the protective gear that the firefighters wear, that it takes a toll on one’s body. He said the firefighters did a good job.
Sugartown Road was closed between Route 252 and Berwyn Paoli Road during the incident due to the fire apparatus and the water supply lines in the roadway. Fire police redirected traffic.
Paoli Fire Co. firefighters were assisted by Berwyn and Malvern fire companies, as well as Radnor and Newtown Square fire companies from Delaware County.
The scene was cleared shortly after 5 p.m. and Sugartown Road reopened at that time.
