Teen ‘targeted’ in fatal shooting

North Coventry police: Incident was not random

NORTH COVENTRY » A 17-year-old male died Monday morning after he was targeted and shot inside an apartment Sunday night, according to police.

Police responded to the Ashwood Apartments in the 700 block of Worth Boulevard in North Coventry for a shooting at about 11:30 p.m. Sunday. Police said two men with masks and a woman entered an apartment on the second floor of the complex and allegedly shot the 17-year-old male in the chest.

Police said the teenager was transporte­d by Goodwill Ambu-

lance to Reading Hospital Trauma Center in critical condition. The teen died Monday about 4 a.m., according to news reports.

The Berks County Coroner’s Office confirmed the teenager died early Monday morning and an autopsy

was scheduled for later Monday night. The victim has not been identified.

The coroner’s office and North Coventry Police did not immediatel­y release any additional details about the death.

North Coventry Police said this was not a random shooting and they have identified at least one possible suspect in this case. No arrests have been made yet. Police said the investigat­ion

is ongoing and they are actively tracking down leads.

North Coventry Police were assisted at the scene by police from Pottstown, West Pottsgrove, East Coventry, Chester County Detectives and Goodwill Ambulance.
