The shooting occurred at about 9:45 p.m. Thursday when an argument between two people erupted into gunfire in the 200 block of Bridge Street, known as Children’s Plaza, killing Joshua Mitchell, 20, according to Phoenixville Police.

The firearm had previously been reported stolen and the serial number on the weapon was partially obliterated, according to police.

Police responded for a report of shots fired on Thursday night in the area of Bank Street and Bridge Street. Upon arrival, officers located a victim with a single gunshot wound.

The shooting occurred in the popular downtown area in Phoenixville, near the historic Colonial Theater which was featured in the 1958 movie “The Blob” and is the scene of an annual Blobfest that attracts thousands of visitors to the borough.
