Elizabeth J. Cox of West Chester
Elizabeth “Betty” J. Cox (nee Williamson), 89, died October 4, 2017 at home surrounded by family.
Born July 6, 1928 in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late Charles T. Williamson and Selena (nee Baxter) Williamson.
She was married to her loving husband of 68 years, Melvin K. Cox.
Betty was a graduate of John Bartram High School in Philadelphia. She was a homemaker, Sunday School Teacher and Girl Scout leader. Betty was a member of Willistown United Methodist Church, and the Red Hat Society.
Betty enjoyed traveling, especially annual vacations to Vermont and Cape May, NJ. She also enjoyed gardening, shopping, sewing, cooking, crafts and spending time with family and friends. She often made unique Halloween costumes for her children and grandchildren. Betty traveled to Ireland several times where her four grandparents were born and eventually immigrated to the United States
During Betty’s final year, she was cared for at home by the wonderful nurses and aides of Neighborhood Hospice. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children Charlene J. Cox, Randall S. Cox (Kelley) and daughter-in-law, Bonnie Jean McKee; grandchildren Carrie Kita (Christoher), Megan E. Cox and step-grandchildren, Amanda McKee and her family, and Taylor Davis.
Betty was predeceased by her son Gary K. Cox, and her brother Charles T. Williamson, Jr.
Relatives and friends are invited to her Visitation on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 from 9-11am at Willistown United Methodist Church, 6051 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 19073; followed by her Funeral Service at 11:00am.
Interment will be in Birmingham-Lafayette Cemetery, West Chester.
