Whippets prevail in overtime

Romea Riccardo scored in overtime as Downingtow­n West edged Notre Dame Academy, 2-1, in a nonleague field hockey game Friday.

Riccardo scored unassisted.

She also assisted on the first goal by Ciana Riccardo in the first half.

Caitlyn Coker registered seven goals.

The Whippets improve to 13-0 overall.

Abby Barth scored in overtime as the Moose (2-1, 7-2) collected the Friends School League victory. Dewi Henry also scored for Westtown.

BISHOP SHANAHAN 14, CHICHESTER 1 » The Eagles (11-3) received two goals from five different players as they rolled to the nonleague ictory. Harrion Coron led the way with two goals and three assists. Jake Frank recorded his 50th career goal.

BISHOP SHANAHAN 1, POTTSGROVE, OT » Alaina McLaughlin scored eight minutes into the first overtime off an assist from Abby Foster as the Eagles Jess Gorr made a stop at a breakaway half way through the second half to force overtime. She finished with 3 saves. Alaina McLaughlin had the game winner 8 minutes into overtime off an assist from Abby Foster.

DISTRICT 1 SINGLES » Jordan Bradley of Downingtow­n West mollowing the first day of the District 1 singles championsh­ip at Legacy. Bradley, the top seed, had a first-round bye, then downed Ksenija Tasich of Upper Dublin, 6-1, 6-0 in the second round.

Adira Nair of Great Valley, Cassidy Landau of Conestoga, Holly Koons of Downingtow­n West and Hannah Baxter of Henderson all won their first-round matches, but were beaten in the second round.
