Cougars, Pi­o­neers in ten­nis semis

Down­ing­town East and Con­estoga ad­vanced to the District 1 Class 3A Girls Ten­nis semi­fi­nals Thurs­day.

The Cougars im­proved to 18-0 on the sea­son by beat­ing West Ch­ester East, 3-0. First and third sin­gles were stopped due to rain.

Sammy Roberts posted a 6-1, 6-1 vic­tory at sec­ond sin­gles to com­bine with a pair of dou­bles wins.

The Pi­o­neers (18-1) swept Unionville, 5-0, in the quar­ter­fi­nals.

Cas­sidy Lan­dau, Priya Aravin­d­han and Mad­die Wood recorded wins in sin­gles.

The semi­fi­nals will be held Mon­day.

Emma Nel­son notched 18 kills and four aces as the Golden Knights (12-0, 19-0) cruised to the Ches-Mont vic­tory, 25-7, 25-16, 25-12. Alessia Mat­tera added 17 kills and eight digs and Cal­lie McGin­nis con­trib­uted 28 as­sists. 23-25, 25-13. Molly Dun­fee and Alivia Orvi­eto had 12 digs each.
