Two killed in three-vehicle crash

Police: Neither victim in Route 272 accident was wearing a seat belt

WEST NOTTINGHAM » Two people were killed early Sunday morning in a three-vehicle accident on Route 272 in West Nottingham Township, according to state police at Avondale.

Killed were Cierra Nelson, 20, of Peach Bottom, Lancaster County, and Briauna Smith, 19, of Nottingham. Neither Nelson nor Smith was wearing a seat belt.

Also involved in the accident was Ryan Boyd, 26, of Oxford, who was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.

According to police, the accident occurred Oct. 22 at 2:45 a.m. on Route 272 (East Christine Road), between Airport Road and Barnsley Road.

Police said Nelson was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt south on Route 272, and was transporti­ng a 20-year-old female passenger. Boyd was also traveling south on Route 272. Nelson was traveling behind Boyd’s vehicle, a 2011 Volvo S40. Smith, driving a 2009 Chevrolet Cruze, was traveling north on Route 272.

Nelson attempted to pass Boyd, and traveled into the northbound lane, striking Smith’s vehicle head-on, police said. After impact, Nelson’s vehicle struck Boyd’s vehicle.

The 20-year-old female in Nelson’s vehicle was transporte­d to Christiana Hospital with non-lifethreat­ening injuries.

State police were assisted at the scene by Union Fire Co., Medic 94, West Nottingham Police, Chester County Coroner’s Office and

Chew’s Towing.

The crash is still under investigat­ion. Anyone with informatio­n is urged to contact police at 610-268-2022.

PFA VIOLATION » On Monday, October 16, at 5:47 a.m., Coatesvill­e Police responded to West Sixth Avenue in reference to an ambulance call. Further investigat­ion revealed that the victim was assaulted by Monique Bell. Bell was found to have an active criminal warrant for failure to appear in court and was arrested for aggravated assault and Indirect Criminal Contempt for violating a PFA.

DRUG CHARGES, OFFICERS

HURT » On Oct. 17 at 2:59 p.m., Coatesvill­e police officers responded to 118 North Fifth Ave. to enforce a codes eviction on condemned property. Upon arrival officers discovered Keith Bryant, 36, James Reeves, 53 and Ursula Young, 47, all of North Fifth Avenue, in side of the residence.

The officers could see drugs, and parapherna­lia in plain view. Officers placed Young into custody, and Bryant pushed past two officers and fled on foot towards Elm Street. Officers chased Bryant to the intersecti­on of North Fourth Ave and Lumber Street. Drugs were recovered from Bryant, and all officers sustained injuries. All three were arrested on trespassin­g charges, Bryant also was charged for aggravated assault on police. THEFT OF CITY PROPERTY » On Oct. 19 at 2:48 p.m., police

investigat­ed a theft of city property and stolen copper material from the victims business. During the investigat­ion Timothy Supplee was found to be in possession of the stolen items in South Coatesvill­e Borough. City Police attempted to speak with Supplee and he fled the area running into the Brandywine river.

Several officers from East Fallowfiel­d, South Coatesvill­e and Coatesvill­e City Police tracked and arrested Supplee one mile from where he originally entered the river.

Supplee was arraigned for charges that include fleeing to avoid police, theft, and related charges. He was arraigned and released on $20,000 unsecured bail. On Oct. 20, Supplee was arrested

again by Coatesvill­e Police for drug possession and an outstandin­g bench warrant for a probation violation. PUBLIC DRUNKENNES­S » On Oct. 20 at 10:59 p.m., officers from the Coatesvill­e Police Department were dispatched to a disturbanc­e in the 500 block of E. Lincoln Highway. Officers arrived and made contact with Jakie Buchanan, 35. Buchanan appeared to be under the influence and had a strong chemical and alcohol smell, police said. Buchanan was yelling and trying to fight a group in the 500 block. Buchanan was asked several times to calm down and was eventually taken into custody for public drunkennes­s. Buchanan was taken to the station without incident and cited for public

DUI » Evan Miller, 24, of Malvern was arrsted for DUI following a one-car crash on Route 202 north, just south of the Route 29 exit in East Whiteland on Oct. 12 at 12:52 a.m. Police said Miller was traveling north on Route 202 and traveled northwest out of the travel lanes onto the western shoulder of the road and impacted the barrier on the western shoulder of the road. Miller received minor injuries. Police were assisted by East Whiteland Fire Co. and Abel Brothers Towing. DRUG CHARGES » Police conducted at traffic stop on Oct.

11 at 8 p.m. on the Route 30 bypass eastbound, west of Pottstown Pike, and found Shawn Douglas Flowers, 26, of Lancaster to be in possession of drug parapherna­lia. ASSAULT » On Oct. 13 at 12:06 a.m., police responded to 3117 Upper Valley Road in West Sadsbury for the report of an assault. Police found that Connie Lynne Cannon, 45, of Parkesburg, struck a 19-year-old male from Parkesburg with a flashlight. Dequire Cannon, 19, then shoved a 45-yearold Parkesburg man to the ground, and struck Dequire Cannon about the face and body multiple times with a closed fist. Dequire Cannon fled the scene prior to police arrival.
