David L. Binder of Strasburg

David L. Binder, 65, of Strasburg passed away Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Moravian Manor.

Born in Doylestown, PA, he was the son of the late Brammer and Sarah Jane (Grisdale) Binder. He was also the loving husband of Melissa (Kelly) Binder with whom he shared 27 years of marriage.

Dave grew up in Chester Springs, PA, and was the oldest of three children. He graduated from Great Valley High School in 1970, and the University of Pittsburgh in 1974 with a double major in History and Political Science.

Dave started his financial career with Domestic Finance in Lancaster in 1978. He moved on to Hamilton Bank where he worked as a Credit Analyst and then as Assistant Vice President/ Commercial Loans and Business Banking. From there, he worked at Lebanon Valley Bank as an Assistant Vice-President/Loan Review Officer; Downingtow­n National Bank as Vice-President/Commercial Loan Officer; and, Bank of Lancaster County as Vice-President/Commercial Credit Manager. He finished his career at Susquehann­a Bank/BB&T in 2015 as Vice-President/Portfolio Manager/Small Business Lending Unit.

Dave loved his job as a banker and networking with his co-workers. He also enjoyed getting to know his customers and their businesses. He always treated the Bank’s money as if it were his own, and he could always follow the money.

In his younger days, Dave traveled and organized backpackin­g trips to Denali, the Tetons, and Baffin Island with dear friends.

Dave’s hobbies included cooking, collecting pen knives, pocket watches, coins, and stamps.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Lindsay Binder of Lancaster and Erin Binder of Strasburg. Also surviving is a brother, Mark Binder of South Royalton, VT, and a sister, Kathy Fry wife of Jim of Lakeway, TX. He was preceded in death by his stepdaught­er, LeighAnn Oast.

The family would like to thank the Lancaster General Hospital Nursing Staff and Aides on 7 West who provided excellent care. The family also would like to thank the compassion­ate staff at Moravian Manor and Hospice for their kindness, all of whom provided Dave with dignity through his last days.

A Visitation for David will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2017 from 10AM12Noon at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA. Private Interment will be held in Middle Octorara Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributi­ons in David’s memory may be made to the Four Diamonds Fund, 1249 Cocoa Ave, Suite 115, P.O.
