Firm aids in repair of power grid for Puerto Rico
WEST CHESTER » Weston Solutions, Inc., of West Chester has successfully started two generators to supply temporary power and help stabilize the electrical grid system in Puerto Rico. The generators can provide up to a combined 50 megawatts of electricity to the Palo Seco power plant near San Juan.
The safe startup and integration of these units under the existing Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA) system, marks a major milestone in the repair of the power grid for Puerto Rico. In partnership with subcontractor APR Energy, Weston drove the project schedule in record time, connecting the generators to the local power grid within three weeks of contract award. Weston managed the startup and commissioning of the generators in coordination with USACE and PREPA, following multiple safety and diagnostic tests.
“Weston has partnered with the USACE on over 150 time-sensitive projects, and we appreciate the opportunity to be the Prime Contractor on this important project,” said Weston President and Chief Executive Officer, Alan Solow. “In a matter of days, the Project Team mobilized people and equipment to Puerto Rico, and within three weeks, work was completed, and the project was stabilizing the power grid in the San Juan area, and reducing power outages to those already receiving power. The Weston team, including our subcontract partners APR Energy and Westinghouse Government Services, worked day and night to make this a success.
“In close partnership with USAGE and PREPA, Weston looks forward to continuing in our long tradition of successfully executing time-sensitive work, and we stand ready to support additional efforts to restore hope to the citizens of Puerto Rico.”
