East Bradford honors its veterans

- Staff Report

East Bradford held its Veterans Day Honor Ceremony on Saturday morning at East Bradford Park.

EAST BRADFORD » State Sen. Andy Dinniman, D-19, called on residents to unite in support of veterans and American servicemen and women at East Bradford Township’s Veterans Day Honor Ceremony on Saturday morning at East Bradford Park.

Dinniman, who served as the ceremony’s keynote speaker, said that even during times of division and divisiveness, respecting and supporting our veterans was something all citizens could and should get behind.

“When you look around, we don’t have many heroes today, do we? But our young people can always look to those who fought and served as real heroes and role models. They set the definitive example of courage, commitment, service, and sacrifice in defense of our nation and the cause of freedom,” Dinniman said. “And when our country faces a challenge, when we are threatened, when we’re at war, there are no lines or divisions, are there? When we’re in a fight, we’re all together – we’re all Americans.”

Dinniman, who serves on the Senate Emergency Preparedness and Veterans Affairs Committee, also spoke of the community’s efforts to work together and with him to repair, maintain, and succeed in saving the Medal of Honor Grove near Valley Forge, the nation’s oldest memorial site dedicated to Medal of Honor recipients.

John Snook, vice chair of the East Bradford Township Board of Supervisors, introduced Dinniman saying, “He has always been a supporter of our military and our veterans and that is something that is not partisan.”

The event, which was attended by dozens of local residents and veterans, included a patriotic performance by the Henderson High School Band and singing by the Amerikids.

An Honor Guard from Boy Scout Troop No. 50 of Devon led the raising of the flag, as well as an honorary wreath-laying and moment of silence.

The event was sponsored by East Bradford Township, Kati Mac Floral Design, and Allison Barto of Re/ Max Direct.
