Ruth Vera McCormick (nee Hawley) of Cincinnati, Ohio

Ruth Vera McCormick (nee Hawley) died peacefully in hospice on November 20, 2017 in Cincinnati, Ohio at the age of 91.

Ruth is survived by her brother Donald Hawley and wife Maryanne from Audubon, Pennsylvan­ia; her daughter Sandy Hess and husband Jeff from Cincinnati, Ohio; and sons James McCormick Jr. and wife Mary from Exton, Pennsylvan­ia; and Michael McCormick and wife Marlene Matosky from North East, Maryland and daughterin-law Candance McCormick of Washington Crossing, Pennsylvan­ia as well as 10 grandchild­ren and 4 great-grandchild­ren. She is preceded in death by her husband James Stanley McCormick Sr. from West Chester, Pennsylvan­ia; her son Guy Alan McCormick from Washington Crossing, Pennsylvan­ia and siblings Horace Hawley from New Jersey; Mary Shockley from Tuckerton, New Jersey; Josephine Herrmann from Springfiel­d, Pennsylvan­ia; and Rosemary Snelling from Scarboroug­h, Maine.

Ruth was born on January 16, 1926 in Delaware County, Pennsylvan­ia to Horace Hawley and Rosemary Gunn. She graduated from Glen Nor High School (Delaware County) in 1945. She married James S. McCormick Sr. of Philadelph­ia on May 4, 1946. Upper Darby, Newtown Square, Bala Cynwyd, Sea Isle City, and West Chester were communitie­s the family lived in along the journey. Ruth primarily was a homemaker and throughout her entire life was an avid newspaper reader. She especially enjoyed completing crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, cryptogram­s, and crafting.

For the last seven years, Ruth was under the loving and thoughtful care of her daughter Sandy and sonin-law Jeff as well as granddaugh­ters Katie and Emily and great-granddaugh­ter Kayleen. Kind and compassion­ate caregivers assisted Ruth allowing her to stay with Sandy and Jeff in their home.

A funeral service is scheduled for 11 am on November 30, 2017 at the Church of the Redeemer Springfiel­d, Pennsylvan­ia where family and friends may visit from 10:30-11:00am; burial will be at the church. A luncheon will follow at a restaurant to be determined. Father David Beresford will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Ruth’s life. In leu of flowers, please donate in Ruth’s name to a charity of your choice.
