WAYNE » Keeping with tradition, the 90th Corps of Cadets of Valley Forge Military Academy and College (VFMAC) presented a Military Tattoo performance Nov. 17, an exhibition of inspirational military music, in Price Hall Gymnasium on the historic campus in Wayne.

One of the most significant events on the VFMAC calendar, the Military Tattoo Performance was attended by more than 250 people, including parents, faculty, staff and alumni, cadets and students and members of the community. The Military Tattoo featured 15-minute, cadet-led musical presentations performed by the VFMAC Regimental Band, VFMAC Field Music, VFMAC Regimental Choir, and the VFMAC Precision Drill Team.

Other performances included the Washington Memorial Pipe Band, with a special appearance by the U.S. Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps and the U.S. Naval Academy Silent Drill Team.

“Year after year, our Forge Family looks forward to the Military Tattoo Performance where our wonderful partners and our amazingly talented cadets showcase their stunning musical talents. This celebration not only brings our community together in an unique way but demonstrates our deep appreciation and respect for military service,” said Colonel John C. Church, Jr., USMCR (Ret.), President of Valley Forge Military Academy & College.

The term military tattoo dates from the early 17th century European tradition of military drummers alerting soldiers it was time to return to their barracks for the evening.

The phrase doe den tap toe (“turn off the tap”) evolved over time and now refers to a ceremonial performance of military music.

At the event, VFMAC once again collected toys for less fortunate children in the community through a Toys for Tots drive.

Toys for Tots is an initiative led by the United States Marine Corps Reserve.
