Half-finished demolition nearly devastates local woman

- Staff Report

WEST CHESTER » Edith inherited her childhood home and relied on her chocolate lab and mongrel to ease the grief of losing her father.

Three years later, she fell in love with a man who offered to remodel her home. After starting extensive demolition, the man suffered from drug addition and ended the relationship abruptly, leaving the house in total disrepair.

With insulation removed from the exterior walls, Edith faced the possibility of frozen pipes and prohibitively expensive heating bills during the winter. “I didn’t know where to begin,” she says. “I didn’t have the money, the skills or the time to rebuild my home.”

It’s less expensive, not to mention more kind and compassionate, to help people remain in their homes rather than waiting until they enter a homeless shelter. That’s why Good Works approved Edith for assistance.

Work began on her home this fall and will continue into the new year. Without this intervention, Edith would likely have lost her dogs and not been able to maintain a roof over her head.
