Nancy N. Althouse of Malvern
Nancy N. Althouse, 88, passed away on Sunday, November 26, at her home in Malvern where she lived under the attentive care of her daughter Karen Kirk. Born in Narberth to the late Robert Nash and Geraldine Nash, she was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Nancy married her late husband, Donald L. Althouse in 1948, and they shared more than 40 years together. Nancy was an active member of her church for many years, where she volunteered in the food pantry, the thrift shop, and assisted with outreach for homebound senior citizens. Since the 1950’s, she was a passionate advocate for people with intellectual disabilities, including her late daughter Donna Lee Althouse, and fought tirelessly for education rights, inclusion, dignity, and respect on their behalf. Nancy was interested and active in local politics and in the Great Valley schools, which all of her children and grandchildren attended. She adored all animals and lavished attention on her many beloved dogs and cats over the years. She was also a loyal, lifelong fan of Philadelphia sports teams, especially the Phillies. She is survived by her children, Robert Althouse, Sherrie Althouse Obertelli, Karen Kirk, and Dawn Althouse. Nancy also leaves her grandchildren Aaron Althouse, Tyrus Althouse, Faith Kirk, and Aileen Kirk, and her greatgrandchildren Rhiannon Kirk-Foster, Logan Althouse, and Mirabelle Olson. A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, December 9, in the chapel of The Church of the Good Samaritan in Paoli. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation to The Arc, an advocacy organization for people with developmental disabilities, at www.thearc.org.
