Patriots nab Academy Park Duals title
Great Valley went a perfect 3-0 on the day to capture the crown at the Academy Park Duals wrestling tournament Saturday. The Patriots (3-0) beat Pottsgrove, 39-30 in the quarterfinals. Then they disposed of Ridley, 46-34 in the semifinals, before downing Bensalem, 45-28 in the final.
Ethan Seeeley had a perfect tournament, going 3-0 with three pins between being at 182 and 195 pounds. Dylan Neale (160) and Luke Wilson (145) were both 3-0 with a pair of pins.
Tyler Humphreys was 2-0 at 182.
Kennett posted a 1-2 record, beating South Philadelphia, 57-16, and losing to Ridley, 42-33 and Pottsgrove, 50-26. Going 3-0 were Logan Reigel (126), Gerhardt Reiter (132), Trent Kochersperger (120) and Collin Watson (285).
Downingtown East took third place after going 3-2. They beat Biglersville, 63-15, Columbia, 78-3, and Hempfield, 59- 24. They fell to Reading, 3735 and Spring Grove, 58-18. Jack Lawto (152) and Josh Wileczek (195) went 5-0 on the day. Keanu Manuel (106), Lukas Richie (132), Brett Horne (138) and Matt Romanelli (170) all posted 4-1 marks.
West Chester East finished tied for seventh in the 23team tournament. Individual medalists were Corey Celenza, second at 126. Tommy Luke, third at 132, Andrew DiBernardo, fourth at at 182 and Joe Timm, fifth at 285.
Gavin Frankenheimer had 14 points and Liam Ward added 12 as the Patriots held on for the victory. Nate Graeff and Will Fredrick had 10 points each.
Madeline Williams had 13 points and Miranda Porretta added nine as the Hornets (1-1) fell in the championship of the methacton Tournament. freestyle, establishing a new pool record in the process with her time of 16 minutes, 39.58 minutes. She also captured the 200 backstroke in 2:01.34 to set a new Graham Natatorium mark. Teammate Emily Haudek was right behind Wright in the 200 back, touching the wall in 2:01.44. Katelyn Chick was a double winner. She took first place in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.10) and the 200 breast (2:18.64). Chick was the first of three Golden Rams to the wall in the 100 breast.
