Downingtown East and West tennis players award scholarships
Sweet Jane’s Wish Foundation awarded $2,500 scholarships to tennis players Elyse Burch at Downingtown East and Victoria Christia at Downingtown West.
Sweet Jane’s Wish Foundation is a fund of the Chester County Community Foundation and honors the memory of Jane Gerlach Booge who tragically lost her battle with breast cancer at age 47. Jane attended Downingtown High School from 1981-1984 and was a member of the girls tennis team. Her quiet confidence and positive attitude took her to numerous championship matches including districts and state competitions. Jane was well known off the court for her compassion and friendship to many. After graduating from Penn State University she cared for the children of many families in Chester County as the director of The Chesterbrook Academy West Chester and Lionville, PA. Jane later worked as an instructional aide at Uwchlan Hills Elementary School.
To date Sweet Jane’s Wish foundation has awarded over $45,000.00 in scholarship awards to Downingtown East and West High School seniors who have participated in girls tennis and girls and boys ice hockey programs and are furthering their education at a university, college, or trade school.
Sweet Jane’s Wish Foundation also supports the Living Beyond Breast Cancer Organization with a yearly donation. LBBC supports families who are experiencing the crisis of fighting breast cancer and have to cope with expenses not covered by traditional insurance and other related issues.
